Now Super 30 like IIT coaching for poor Muslims

Patna June 11 : Bihar's Additional Director General of Police Abhyanand, who coached and helped 30 students from poor families to join the Indian Institutes of Technology, now plans to coach talented poor Muslim IIT aspirants.

A few days after Abhyanand dissociated himself from the Super 30, the innovative coaching institute in Patna, he made up his mind to start another experiment to spot talented Muslim students from poor families and to help them crack the IIT entrance examination.

”Now my focus is to help students from the Muslim community, who are educationally and economically most backward in the country,” said Abhayanand.

Abhyanand told IANS by telephone Wednesday that he had already started working on the new project and is discussing it with interested people from the Muslim community and others who will come forward to shape it.

”I am confident that it will materialize within a month's time. We are preparing the methodology,” he said.

He said that talented poor Muslim students would be given proper guidance, study materials as well other facilities free of cost.

”It will be on the lines of Super 30, which was a successful experiment with hundred percent result this year,” said Abhyanand. He was co-founder of Super 30 along with Anand Kumar.

He is likely to get support from some Muslim organisations to launch his new project. Rahmaniya Foundation, a voluntary organisation based in Munger district, has promised to help him.

Abhyanand, who taught physics at the Super 30 since its inception six years ago, said that the success of Super 30 lies in hard work and proper guidance for achieving excellent results.

Every year, Super 30 selects a group of 30 IIT aspirants from poor families and provides them free coaching, food and accommodation. This year all the 30 students enrolled in Super 30 were selected for the IITs.

Abhyanand said Super 30 was a concept. ”It proved to be a successful experiment, now I am set for another experiment for poor Muslim students,” he said. There is a lot of talent which is yet to be found and nurtured, he added.

He said the idea of coaching Muslim students struck him because for the first time Super 30's successful students included Muslim students this year. Till last year students from backward castes, extreme backward castes and Dalits cracked IIT-JEE through Super 30. "But this year, some students from the minority community also succeeded in IIT-JEE," he said.

According to the 1991 census, the Muslim population in Bihar was over 10 million, which is 15.7 percent of the state's population.

Despite several schemes for minorities, only 36 percent of the Muslims in Bihar are literate. There are half a dozen minority colleges and dozens of schools. There are over 4,000 madrasas in the state.

Super 30 took shape five years ago. Eighteen of its students cracked the IIT-JEE that first year, 2003. The number rose to 22 in 2004 and 26 in 2005.

Last year, a British filmmaker traced the journey of 30 students from impoverished homes to IIT. Directed by Christopher Mitchell, "Super 30" follows the lives of the 30 students from the time they were chosen from among 4,000-5,000.

Two years ago Norika Fujiwara, a former Japanese beauty queen and actress, made a documentary film on Super 30 for its innovative and successful attempt to send poor children to India's top engineering colleges.

It is great and fascinating news for all of us to know that after successfully implementation and leaving it to run on a concrete track of the concept "Super 30" Mr. Abhayanad is all set to experiment the similar methodology for the poor but talented Muslim IIT aspirants.

As he clearly made it a point on several occasions that "teaching physics is not his profession but his passion". The above said sentence itself is enough to tell the intellect and wisdom level of him. Now, there are noises and whispers from all around trying to add politics into it. I would like to make very clear to all the readers that a person like Mr. Abhyananad never waits at the sea shore to trap the fish but believe in going deep into the sea to catch the same. The persons who know the psychology of these great people never suggest anyone whosoever to provide them the position of a minister to serve the state/nation and the whole of humanity as they do not require a position to serve and enlighten the human kind. Also, these great personalities neither ask anyone to follow them nor to lead as well. They just dream to do something for the sake of humanity, to enlighten the mankind with Knowledge and wisdom and take the flag and moves ahead without even giving a thought that someone criticizing him or her or appreciating. And it is not a surprise if the people stand behind them and follow whatever they go and whatever good they do.

Therefore, at the end, I would like to request my brothers and sisters to stop speculation and imagination, ifs and buts, and if they feel honestly and from the depth of their heart that Mr. Abhayanad is trying to do something remarkable to enlighten the mankind. Come and stand firm behind him and give him the support you can render to him on your personal level, whether socially, politically, financially or even morally.

With regard to comments by our fellow Mr. Ranjan Rituraj Sinh, I do agree that there should no politics on "Super 30". Similarly, please do not involve Abhay Anand Sir in any kind of politics or associate him with any kind of political parties. If you re-call, Abhay Anand Sir clearly stated that "Teaching Physics is His Passion" and not Abhay Anand Sir's profession. He is professional super cop and 4-5 years of services still remains to get retired from Bihar Police. Therefore, if according to Ranjan, he joins Ministry or take-up civilian post, he has leave present job (as ADG-Bihar Police), then it is possible, whereas I am sure Abhay Anand Sir is also a professional Police Officer (IPS) and he will not wish to dis-associate himself from present paid service, as we all are aware, Abhay Anand Sir do not charge salary/monetary benefit from teaching. Being a son of soil, he just want to give back to its home state of Bihar.

Further, we all Biharis, intellectuals, community leaders and respectable citizens/persons from our society regardless of their cast, creed, religion and social status should support Abhay Anand Sir to complete his incomplete task and let him continue to work as ADG (Bihar Police), but yes, based on his performance, it is now upto the present State Government to further provide him more opportunity in order to further work on crime-control measures by way of promoting for the Super Cop job, but it should be Bihar Government's prerogative. As an ordinary citizen, we have no right to super-impose anything.

Currently, I am in Muscat, Oman and have highlighted in the newspaper (Times of Oman dated 11th June 2008) in respect to "Bihar's Super 30" and Times of Oman had kindly published my comments under "Readers Forum" and trust me people are very much curious to know more Abhay Anand and Anand Kumar of Ramanujan School of Mathematics.

Now , Present Govt of Bihar must stop all politics and ego clashes and 'tricks' of Power balancing for the betterment of Bihar . POLITICS nahi karana hi sab se badee POLITICs hoti hai .

If Nitish Kumar realy wants to do something for Bihar , He must promote Abhay Anand Sir as Education Minister or Education Secretary or Education Advisor , While world knows that His initiated "Speedy Trials" , SAP , etc were a big hit as well as his Peace March in Bhagalpur stunned many politicians ! We need not be stunned but we must welcome such Officers who can sacrifiece thier comfort for betterment of Bihar .

Many Non resident Bihari are willing to return back with one condition - If Abhay Anand Sir lead all of us !
