Patna, May 16(BiharTimes): The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police on Saturday carried out simultaneous raids at four locations linked to Gopal Kumar, an Executive Engineer posted in the Rural Works Division in Jhajha, Jamui, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
According to an official statement issued by the Bihar Police Headquarters, the EOU registered Case No. 08/26 on May 15 under the Prevention of Corruption Act after a preliminary verification revealed that the engineer had allegedly amassed assets worth ₹2,00,61,000 beyond his known sources of income. The disproportion was estimated to be around 81.5 per cent.
Following the registration of the case, the EOU obtained search warrants from the Special Vigilance Court in Patna and launched coordinated raids on Saturday morning. Teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officers conducted searches at multiple premises associated with Kumar, including his flat in Jagat Pila Apartment in Jyotipuram, a residence in East Indira Nagar in Kankarbagh, a rented accommodation near KKM College in Jamui, and his office in Jhajha.
During the course of the searches, officials recovered cash amounting to ₹40 lakh. The EOU stated that the search operation is still underway and a comprehensive report on the seizures and findings will be released after its completion.
Investigators are currently examining documents related to real estate holdings, bank transactions, investments, and other financial records to ascertain the full extent of the alleged irregularities. Officials said that prompt legal action was initiated after preliminary findings indicated serious financial misconduct.
The Economic Offences Unit, a specialised wing of the state police, handles complex financial crimes including corruption and large-scale economic offences. Further developments in the case are expected once the ongoing investigation concludes.
