Patna, Sep 20 : Two young men have carried out the last rites for the dead in Bihar, not for their ancestors but for corruption, hoping to bury the practice once and for all.

The activity was aimed at sending a message of no corruption.

Shiv Shankar, aged 20, offered pindadan, the last rite according to Hindu religious rituals, seeking salvation for the dead from the cycle of rebirth.

"We have decided to send messages to corrupt people by offering pindadan. We were supported by all the activists of Jawab," he said Friday after the ritual. He is associated with Gaya-based NGO Jawab, working to create awareness about the use of Right to Information for fighting corruption.

The activists of Jawab and several local people raised slogans against corruption and distributed pamphlets among pilgrims to encourage them to take on corruption. The activity was witnessed by dozens of local people as well as hundreds of pilgrims.
