Patna, (Bihar Times): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday evening called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and made a further demand of Rs 8,923 crore from the Centre for the rehabilitation of the flood-hit people of North Bihar. He also demanded food packets for the victims.

Last month he sought Rs 1,000 crore and one lakh tonnes of foodgrains. The Centre immediately sanctioned Rs 1010 crore and 125 lakh tones of foodgrains, that is more than demanded by him.
However, this time the state is not sure of getting Rs 8,923 crore because of opposition from many UPA ministers. Railway minister Lalu Yadav held a Press conference near Prime Minister’s residence to expose as to how not a single paise––of the Rs 1010 crore––has been spent by the state government. Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar also charged the state government with lifting only 900 tonnes of foodgrains so far though it has been sanctioned 125 lakh tonnes.
