      | Patna, (Bihar Times): Even as the chief minister Nitish
Kumar was unfolding the roadmap for the development of
agriculture in Bihar and trying to take farmers in
confidence at the first Kisan Panchayat in the Shri
Krishna Memorial Hall a large number of farmers raised
slogans Mukhiya Mantri Murdabad as they were debarred
from entering the venue by some junior police
officials.

About 2,000 farmers from all over the state converged
at the venue, but there was chaos and disorder
outside. While the police said that they allowed only
those farmers who had entry pass the agitating farmers
outside claimed that the government announcement
inviting them for  the meet did not mention anything
about the entry pass. They charged that the police
officials roughed up the women famers and instead
allowed politicians to enter the hall.
However, the chief minister in his inaugural speech
made it amply clear that farmers would be taken into
confidence so far laying down new policy is concerned.
He said there was a plan to implement new farming
strategy whether it was related to input, marketing or
processing. He said that his government was planning
to develop a new thinking in the farm sector.

Agriculture minister Narendra Singh said that the
Kisan Panchayat, the first of its kind to be held in
the state, had been organized to make farming more
profitable as well as respectable profession. The
state government was making an effort to increase the
    output with less input.

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, water
resources minister, Ramashray Prasad Singh and
sugarcane minister, Nitin Mishra also took part in the
    meet.

The farmers got opportunity to discuss successful
    methods deployed in horticulture, pisciculture,
    bee-keeping, poultry farming, goat-rearing, aromatic

and medicinal plants, dairy technology and cooperative
    farming.
