Patna, (Bihar Times): Two BJP MPs and an MLA were literally chased away and even manhandled by the irate flood-victims of Susar Dhar near Araria-Supaul border. An executive engineer was also manhandled at Bhimnagar by the angry crowd which demanded food and relief materials.
According to a delayed rport the incident took place on Thursday. The people’s representatives targeted by the hungry as well as angry crowd were Forbesganj BJP MP, Lakshmi Mehta, Araria BJP MP, Sukhdeo Paswan and Narpatganj BJP MLA, Janardan Yadav.
When the three BJP leaders tried to approach the people who were taking shelter at a high place they were surprised by the reaction of the people there. The starving masses shouted that they were not prepared to hear the verbal assurance but want food.
Government officials told mediapersons that they were afraid of approaching many flood-hit places due to the fury of the people.
Meanwhile, flood waters have entered fresh areas in the entire north-eastern Bihar. The 400-metre long breach in Sapt Kosi in Nepal has now increased to two kilometers.
Comments...
It is really a sad development. Public representatives like MPs and MLAs who are trying to be with the public should be treated with respect. J&K style protest which is just for the sake of protest is not going to help anybody. The result of such anarchy will be that public representatives will start avoid going to such places. This will further increase the rift between the people and the representatives.
It may also be borne in mind that the floods are the result of decades and decades of neglect and wrong policies. The current representatives are as much victims. They are not superhumans who can turn the situation around like magic.
The criticism by Lalu is also irresponsible. Who can forget his own statement when he had famously said that floods are good for people. They are able to savour good quality fish!
One can only hope that good sense will prevail and everyone will work together for the amelioration of the flood affected people.
