Centre’s green signal to IIT, IIM in Bihar

Patna, (BiharTimes): The steering committee of the Planning Commission on Friday gave nod to the proposal of setting up an Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management and Indian Institute of Information Technology in Bihar, besides a University Grants Commission-aided college in each district of the state.

This was decided in the meeting with secretaries higher education of various states in New Delhi. Those present in the meeting included the UGC chairman, S K Thorat and senior officials of the Centre. Prof B L Mungekar, member (education, planning commission) chaired the meeting which also discussed various aspects of secondary, higher and technical education in the country.

It was also decided to open a central university in every state. Concerns were expressed at the inability of the poor students to take up higher and technical education due to financial constraints. It was decided to improve and promote the educational set up in accordance with the changing needs at the national and international level. The thrust was on making the education more job-oriented.
