Pradeep Rai, if you don’t understand the topic then what makes you believe that people are drawing conclusions from inherently flawed reasoning.  Whose reasoning you are calling flawed Mr Chndra’s or Dr Sharan’s without understanding them?
From next time if all you have to talk on a public forum is talk about your IIT degree then please also try to attach your Graduation  Certificate too so that people can verify that.
Tomorrow if I upload a web page with information that Aryabhatt was a ‘Paswan’ and if it appears on Google search will you believe it?  A fraud will be bashed…..you can’t stop it. Thanks to baseless Dr Ramdoss (Health Minister) now many will believe that it was indeed a Bihari Doctor because of whom UK does not recognize medical degree of India and simply because some people believe it there will always be some Biharis like you who will say Bihartimes should not starts debate on this because 0.0000000000001% of its readers don’t understand Medicine and being majority of Bihartimes readers being Bihari will unnecessary  bash Dr Ramdoss.

Chandra is not the first person to claim that Aryabhata was from Kerala. He is certainly not the last one. If you search for Aryabhata or Aryabhatt on Google, you will find plenty of people on the either side of the coin. To prove Chandra wrong, you must provide valid proof with legitimate references. Bashing Chandra is not the right way to do it.

Drawing illogical conclusions from inherently flawed reasoning is not the right way to do prove your point. I am incapable of discussing astronomy, and therefore I have not proposed any idea/theory on this topic. It appears that Sanjiv is capable of shedding light on this subject, and he is more than welcome to substantiate his point of view.
Pradeep Rai

First of all I would like to congratulate Prof. Saran for his compressive reply to Mr. Chandra's points and for proposing to meet Mr. Chandra for one to one discussion.  Well done professor points well taken.

Like to see Mr. Chandra’s acceptance Regarding Mr. Rai comments that this is not appropriate forum and saying that 0.000000001% of Bihar times readers wont understand these discussions, as a reader to this paper it would raise strong objection for his comment which is more racist in nature then contributing anything substantial to this discussion and I do not understand what points he wants to make by saying that he is native form Bihar, B tech in chemical Engineering for IIT Bombay and leaving in USA etc.!!! Do it means all others are idiots and have no grey material at all.

Writing such a shoddy comments and adding name to Bihar and IIT in it is lowering the dignity of both, please stop using such method to press up on your points. Let is be pure logical in reasoning. And few mathematical equations do not bother most of the Bihar time’s reader.

Also congratulate Bihar Times to give a platform for such discussion other wise such published papers would have gone un noticed and few years down the line it would be considered as history and people would start using as a valid references!!!!!. These are the ways many dubious references are created and is considered as truth.
Good Job keep it up.

We are all aware of the tendency of a winning army rewriting history to suit its political ends. Thus the British came to give a history of India which was designed to propagate their rule in India, the Persians tried obliterating the history of India which existed before Muslim conquest of India and so on.  The deliberate and vicious neglect of Bihar by the centre resulting in Bihar getting the lowest per capita share of the dev funds in each five year plan without exception since independence coulped with the ineptitude of the state political leadership has resulted in backwardness of our beloved state. But does that make us a defeated people in our own country where certain regional chauvinists can usurp our history behaving like a victorious army? A few days back there was an attempt by some Bengali scholars to approriate the great abbot of Nalanda, Shilbhadra, as one from Bengal rather than from Silao as has been generally accepted till now. Then there was a Ph D study at Cal university trying to disprove that Patna is indeed Pataliputra. Funny as this sound, the fellow was actually awarded Ph D by Cal university for his 'historic' research!!! Now this attempt of K Chandra Hari to claim Aryabhatta.  I dont remember who said Poverty is a Sin, but even he would not have had this dimension of 'sin' when he wrote his oft quoted statement. The blatant bias of the likes of Chandra Hari has to be exposed. Indeed it is time that we Biharis claim our legacy and counter such vicious propaganda effectively. Perhaps militant sub nationalism is the only course left to reclaim what is rightfully ours since others seem to have little regards for historical facts and our sensitivities and sensibilities.   I resent the attempt by people here (including Chandra Hari) to link the ethnicity of Dr Sharan to insinuate that he has written what he has written because he is from Bihar. I resent the attempt of some others even more  who in trying to present a facade of neutrality end by alluding that Dr Sharan has been less than gentlemanly in his write up - I read Dr Sharan's article again and again and must say it is a monotonous write up written with no hint of a slur or inneundo. If at all,  it can be accused of being boring.

As suggested by Dr. Balasubramainum, I can discuss this in a Forum which ought to be Bihar Puravid Parishad Patna which is a society of Historians. This is a historical matter primarily i.e. the Place of Aryabhatt.  Next time when I come to India , I will let you also know, and let Shree Chandra Hari present his ideas there.

There are enough technical people there ( mathematicians and engineers at Patna ).  I also know that people there do not take sides or that  they are narrow minded; primary example can be seen as Mr. Pradip Rai on this Forum itself who has spent considerable amount of time to write his e-mails.

Bihar has never been partial – for example when Adi Shankaracharya from Kerala came to Bihar to do Shashtrarth with Mandan Mishra some where in Tirhut I believe, he was given fair opportunity.

As far as the role of Bihar Times is concerned, it did a fair job by first publishing a balanced news item without taking any sides which, it appears, Shree Rai has missed. When Shree Chandra Hari contacted Bihar Times he was asked to write and then I wrote my response – all of these in Public Domain.

Next, when it comes to common persons are appropriate to participate – I
think they are. After all, it is a matter of History of Bihar. No one is that ignorant.

Kindly ask Shree Chandra hari if he is willing to present his paper at Patna.

Anand M. Sharan

Bihartmes.com is not a scientific forum or journal. Therefore, it is inappropriate for a technical discussion such as longitude and latitude of Ujjain or any other place.

Secondly, 99.99999999999% of the readers of the bihartimes.com are Biharis. Therefore, every response here will be swayed towards Bihar. Thus, Chandra will not get a fair deal at bihartimes.com.

Thirdly, if you look at the comments by viewers on this discussion, one and all have cursed Chandra. This is not the right way to have an astronomical battle.

Fourth, one of the viewers commented that since the impact factor of Current Science is zero, the article is nothing but bogus. The impact factor of the journal is immaterial here. The said article should be judged entirely on its merit.

Fifth, not more than 0.0000000000001% of the bihartimes.com readers are capable of discussing astronomy. The said article should only be discussed at a forum where majority of viewers can  discuss  astronomy.

Sixth, a scientific discussion is not done by quotes like "it is widely known ..." or "it is an accepted fact that .." or "I strongly believe that ...". Please quote valid references to prove your point.

Even though Saran is trying hard to bring out the idea that Chandra Hari is the one who wants to prove badly that Aryabhata was a Keralite, from the tone of the discussion, it sounds more like Sharan is more offensive.

The discussion was indeed about Aryabhatt only, and it was
rightly published as a news item . The web addresses of my two papers were

 http://www.engr.mun.ca/~asharan/KUSUMPUR/ARYABHATTV6.htm

 http://www.engr.mun.ca/~asharan/ERAN/ARYABHATT_ERAN_V1.htm

It ( what you read ) came about after Shree Chandra Hari wrote a letter to
Bihar Times which was hardly proper.

When papers are published , they do draw criticisms - which is quite normal.

Shree Chandra Hari's paper came first ,and I posted my paper as a response to that. That is all that happened.
You have seen what Shree Chandra  wrote first.

A public forum like BiharTimes.com is hardly an appropriate place for personal rhetoric. Both of you have PhD degrees and both of you are well aware of philosophy of science. I would request both of you to maintain the dignity and decorum of the scientific process.

I personally consider it inappropriate on the part of the editor of bihartimes (Ajayji) to make this personal vendetta a public display. But, now that he had made it public, let us give audience a brief introduction and flavor of what is being discussed here. Can somebody please post the actual article under scanner here? I just downloaded an article from http://www.ias.ac.in/currsci/aug102007/414.pdf and I believe this is the right article being reviewed here. I know nothing about astronomy and I have many times heard the name of Aryabhata, but nothing else.

The discussion should not be a battle between Kusumpura and Kerala. Let it be only concerned about Aryabhata.

To make it a level playing field, let me confess three things:
I am a native of Bihar.

  1. I am a chemical engineer.
  2. My B.Tech. degree is from IIT Bombay.

These three confessions are crucial to determine which way my natural inclination might sway.

May I interject and give my kind advice. I do not like the tone of the dicussion. Both Prof. Sharan and Dr. Chandra Hari are well known to me and I respect them both. The right thing to do will be for them to meet in person (the next time Prof. Sharan visits India) and sort out the matters like true Indians - by mutual discussion. I invite them both to IIT Kanpur for this.  I also kindly request that each person maintains mutual respect for each other in all kind of dealings, whether private or personal. After all, we are all working for the greatness of India and let us now get bogged down with minor concerns.  If there is anything that I may do to help, I will be very glad to. Simple thing would be for all of you to blame me

If Malyalam is as old as its preachers claim it to be and if Kerela was so advanced in astronomy as Chandra Hari claims it to be then if Aryabahtt was born in Kerela, what was the need for him to travel to Patliputra and do all his work in Sanskrit? He would have remained in Kerela and done all his work in Malyalam similar to his contemporary scholars from Kerela, isn't it? Chandra Hari's paper is a fraud and Dr Sharan has caught him red handed. I think for Chandra Hari it would have been easier to create some factious contemporary scholar declaring him more knowledgeable than Aryabhatt rather than trying to change the birth place of Aryabhatt from Patliputra to Kerela. His attempts sound like declaring some gutter in Kerela as river Ganges and rewriting the history of Patliputra around that gutter.

I won’t be surprised if tomorrow another paper comes claiming original historical Patliputra city was in Kerela. We all know that basic needs of a human being is Food, Cloth and Home but when he gets these his basic needs shifts…he then needs a Car..then a Jet plane and so on. Kerela’s basic developmental needs have been satisfied and now it needs a great history to be great state. You know when some low life becomes rich then to show off in high society he starts buying old vintage Cars, old swords, old paintings, old palaces and then tells everybody that all these belongs to his Great-Great Grand Father. Fact remains that it actually belonged to some one.  Sometime some historical artefacts are stolen and sold to some rich people so that they can satisfy their show off needs. Sometimes influential people simply snatch them, “you dirty fellow what you will do with these precious things, you have denigrated from your old great hereditary you don’t deserve them.” What poor Bihar will do with history of Patliputra and Aryabhatt? They all belong to Kerela! Kerela needs a history to show off! Give it to Kerela!! Kerela is educated, Kerela is shining…now it needs an Aryabhatt and a Bhaskar to show off.  Nothing new, it has been happening through out the history. Bihar’s history is too tempting unfortunately it is too poor to protect them. There are many thieves out there. India is indebted to Bihar for traditions of Budhha my foot! Don’t you know that if Napoleon could have carried Pyramid from Egypt to France he would have declared whole Egyptian Civilization belonging to France unfortunately he could not…similarly giving credit to Bihar for Buddhism is no charity.  For claiming Budhhism one will have to convince lot many Buddhist countries around the world. Unfortunately they are smarter than pseudo scholars of Kerela. Won’t they claim Budhha belonging to their country rather than handing it over to Kerela. Anyway Aryabhatt, Bhaskr are free for loot!! Today Bihar is just a poor and backward state of India without any history or without any geography. If Bihar can not protect people in Assam who associate themselves to history of Bihar as recent as 100 years how can it protect those who are associated with its ancient history? So...Mr Sharan now you know why Aryabhatt was born in Kerela it is because you are a lower intellectual self, your Bihari politicians have degenerated....you don't know physiotherapy and molecular biology.....why don't you just keep silent and accept that why only Arybhatt but entire ancient history of Bihar took place in Kerela.

The journal "Current Science" is a dubious journal with zero impact
factor. Therefore it is not surprising that the articles of dubious value
rewriting the history of science by people like Chandra Hari appears
there. At least know I know this person's name.
