Nitish raises issue of ethanol production, once again

Patna,(BiharTimes): When there is serious shortage of sugar due to fall in its production all over the country Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar once again raised the issue of producing ethanol from sugarcane juice. On Friday he strongly criticized the Centre for not clearing his government’s request to allow possible investors to produce ethanol directly from sugarcane juice. Ethanol can be used as a fuel to run vehicles.

Intervening in a discussion on sugarcane department that was necessitated due to a Cut Motion moved by Awadhesh Singh (Congress) and nine others the chief minister told the state assembly that Bihar Sugarcane (Supply and Purchase Regulation) Bill was duly amended and sent to the Centre for its assent in April 2007 but is yet to be cleared.

He claimed that Bihar would become a ethanol hub of the country if the Bill is cleared by the Centre.

The entire Opposition dubbed Nitish’s statement on the status of sugar mills in the state as bundle of lies and staged a walk-out.
