Baby Kumari to represent Bihar in Commonwealth Games

Patna,(BiharTimes): Baby Kumari, a Begusarai girl, on Tuesday won the silver medal in the 200 m breaststroke event of the Federation Cup Swimming Championships in New Delhi. With this win, Baby qualified for the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi from October 3 to 14. She clocked 3 minutes 20 seconds in the final.

Baby had been suffering from fever on the eve of her main event. Had she been normal she would have performed even better.

Baby rewrote Bihar sports history and became first women swimmer to win a medal in the top tournament of the country. It was Ramadhar Jha, who won a silver medal in National Championships way back in 1975 and that too in the 200 m breaststroke.

At present, Baby is training at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre in Gandhinagar as Bihar does not have an Olympic-size swimming pool.
