Patna, (Bihar Times): The state government has no problem in implementing the UGC recommendations and raising the retirement age of college and university teachers to 65 years from existing 62 to 65 years.
Speaking in the Zero Hour in the Bihar legislative council on Tuesday, chief minister Nitish Kumar said his government has no objection in extending the retirement age of college teachers, but it would be done after making necessary amendments in the existing law.

The chief minister said that the final decision would be taken after soliciting legal opinion on the issue.
The issue of implementating UGC recommendations was raised during the Zero Hour by CPM member Basudeo Singh.
The CM said that he did not know more details about the UGC recommendations. He said he had sought it from Brishan Patel and Hari Narayan Singh.
Congress member Mahachandra Prasad Singh demanded the implement of the UGC recommendations with immediate effect. Nawal Kishore Yadav (RJD) said that there is acute scarcity of college teachers in Bihar. To maintain the high standard of academic excellence, the government should implement it immediately. The UGC has announced its recommendation on February 28, 2009.
Vinod K Chaudhary of the JD(U) said that hundreds of college and university teachers are retiring on Tuesday, that is June 30 itself. The government should extend the retirement age of college teachers immediately.
Aslam Azad of the JD(U) said that several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab and West Bengal, have already implemented the UGC recommendations.
Ghulam Ghous of the RJD said that the government should take it seriously in the larger interest of the teachers community. Kiran Ghai Sinha of the BJP also stressed the need for implementing new UGC recommendations.
The acting chairman of the Council Arun Kumar also said that the government should consider the recommendation of the UGC.
