Patna, (Bihar Times): Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has directed the commercial banks to bring the Credit Deposit ratio in the 17 districts, where the figure is extremely low, at least to 30 per cent.
Districts like Munger, Lakhisarai, Siwan, Bhojpur and Sheikhpura have the CD ratio of less than 25 per cent. Interestingly, districts like West Champaran and Kishanganj have recently witnessed the CD ratio of 50 per cent. Modi said that disparity among the districts is cause of a great concern. He, however, explained that the CD ratio of Bihar has improved from 25 per cent at the time of the creation of Jharkhand in 2000 to 32 per cent now.
According to him the rural regional banks have done better than commercial banks so far CD ratio is concerned. Their CD ratio is 41.15 against 28.53 per cent. The CD ratio of the cooperative banks is 78.10 per cent. He also said that during the recenlty held half yearly meeting with representatives of banks it came to light that performance of Punjab National Bank has been very poor and districts, where this bank was in the role of lead bank, were not faring well on the CD ratio.
